It’s not about a spread. It’s about
Butter is supposed to disappear into whatever it touches. Ours does the opposite—heat and sweetness arrive together, not in turns.
Founder & Head of Small Batches
It all started the way a lot of good things start in my kitchen: with a hot skillet and a jalapeño making that beautiful sizzle sound. You know the one. That sound that makes you suddenly believe you're about to cook something much better than you actually planned. But there was one problem I kept running into. At family dinners, cookouts, and gatherings, I noticed that the people who couldn't have dairy—or were keeping things light—were always the ones watching everyone else enjoy the good stuff. Butter on the corn. Butter on the potatoes. Butter melting over the steak. And me thinking, Why should anybody have to miss out on all of that? I'm a chef. So naturally, I took that personally. I started experimenting to create a spread that wasn't just dairy-free, but fat-free and come to find out only 20 calories. And by "experimenting," I mean I made a ridiculous number of batches. Too spicy. Too sweet. Too bland. Too much jalapeño. Not enough jalapeño. At one point, I'm pretty sure my kitchen smelled like a jalapeño had filed for permanent residency. But I kept going because I wasn't looking to make a lighter spread that people would tolerate. I wanted to make one they would actually crave. I wanted it creamy. Velvety. Rich. Something that would melt beautifully over a sizzling steak, disappear into a bowl of warm grits, kiss a hot piece of cornbread, or get spread onto sourdough before it hit the skillet—all while remaining fat-free and only 20 calories. And then came the jalapeño. I didn't want a recipe that screamed, "HEY! I'M SPICY!" I wanted the jalapeño to have personality. That fresh, bright pepper flavor first. Then a little golden sweetness. And finally… that warm little kick at the end that makes you go back for another bite just to experience it again. Introducing J-Pop's Jalapeño Butter.
